Life as an Aspergers teen with only a handful of friends can lead to weird things, my appreciation of you being one of them.
Born in England and resident of Japan, you were to be the eldest of 4 who would appear in some of the most important battles of Japanese naval history in World War Two, unfortunately you were also the first to fall.
You would start as a Battle Cruiser, doing minor patrol missions along your nation’s coast, then you evolved into a Fast Battleship, proving yourself more powerful than your new contemporaries yet slower than before.
Your life may have ended within the Formosa Strait, resting now at the sea bed, having been fatally wounded by the submarine USS Sea Lion, but your legacy continues. For this piece is not about you alone, but also of your counterpart from Kantai Collection.
Your enthusiasm brings hope on my more miserable days, for it is matched only by your adorkable attempts at English that you effortlessly mix in with your natural speech. That being said, you have also shown fine resolve and superb leadership in battle. You know how and when to be firm or when to be carefree.
No descriptions of your physical appearance matter, for that’s why I find your personality enough of a reason for me to have essentially lost my marbles and write this poem. Whether for better or for worse, (probably the latter), I can’t think of anyone who I’d rather have in my pitiful existence than you, IJN Kongō.
